My name is Angela and I was diagnosed with melanoma in June of this year. I am looking forward to raising awareness and money to help prevent this type of cancer.
I want to thank the amazing staff at UMC cancer center and my incredible family for getting me through this difficult time.

Since being diagnosed two years ago with stage 3C melanoma, I have had three major surgeries and have completed ten months of interferon chemotherapy, and am currently undergoing radiation therapy. Although this has been a very difficult period, I feel fortunate to be under the care of Doctors Jeter, Curiel, Warneke, and Stea, along with the rest of the team at the Cancer Center and have the support of my family and friends. Along the way, we lost my step-father and four of my clients to cancer, but we all continue to remain positive and supportive. The Melanoma Walk is a great way to provide useful information and offer support for those interested.

We have taken care of and met many wonderful people who have been afflicted with this potentially deadly cancer. Our goal is to identify these skin lesions as soon as possible, so that surgical removal will be the only treatment needed. Unfortunately that is easier said than done. The ABCDE’s of Melanoma cannot be overstated to get someone evaluated. If you see a concerning skin change–urge that person to get it evaluated. Please help us fight melanoma today and support Melanoma Walk 2011. As a dermatology practice, we see the impact of melanoma on families and individuals on a daily basis. We are passionate about increasing the public’s awareness of melanoma so that people will have the knowledge and desire to invest in preventative care for themselves and their loved ones.

I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma early June 2011. I had just been laid off from my job and not sure how we were going to get through all of this. With the help, love and support of our family and friends I have been undergoing IL2 treatments and after 2 full treatments, the active cancer cells in my body are no longer and the tumor in my lung is resolved! I just finished treatment #4 , completed to be sure even the smallest of cells have been eradicated and I anxiously look forward to a bright and healthy future. God Bless
